The 10 steps to fixing America

1) The big problem facing America is the transition to a global economy. Wages in America have to continue to come down to be globally competitive. We have all seen this happening on an agonizingly slow scale. As our wages get reduced, the rest of the worlds wages are rising. The actual problem isn't with the wages dropping as much as it is with the interest rates we all pay. People with lots of money and great credit are seeing rates for their home loans between 4% and 6%. Higher risk people are paying interest rates at 8.5% to 10% and their second mortgage interest rates as high as 14%. People with good credit argue that they deserve better rates because they are more responsible. People with high rates can't get responsible as they are saddled with huge interest burdens on a constantly reducing income. So how do we fix it? We do it by reducing the interest rates. Cut all loan interest rates by 50% and issue new mortgages at that rate to every home owner in America. This gets everyone current. It cleans up all of the bank books. It 100% ends current foreclosures and short sales, giving everyone a clean set of books.
The fallout: Banks get to refinance everyone at a fee (of course) which is rolled into your loan. Citizens free up hundreds of dollars of cash each month, to spend on everything, which turns our economy on immediately at a sustainable level.

2) Start a huge construction project in the United States. Any kind of major building project will do as long as it applies to the private sector in some fashion. Fixing our roads helps municipalities and government workers but does little for the average guy with a 9-5 job. Here is an example of what we need to stimulate everyone. Annex 50,000 acres of land in the middle of Nebraska where the population is minimal. Build the 10th wonder of the world, a 100,000 acre pyramid 2,000 feet tall. Make it an entire self contained city with everything you can imagine. Within 5 years Nebraska's economy would be the #1 economy in the United States and this new city would flourish. Home construction, trucking, local government, engineers, hospitals and everything else you can think of would see a huge boom not only in Nebraska but across the country. People would flock there for the new jobs and the new opportunities. Land prices would soar yet still be affordable at the new interest rates mentioned in item 1. Once built, people would go there from all over the world to see it. This would also create a real nice spike in the travel business. We are not talking the Mall of America here.

3) Bail out the common people, not the rich and powerful. We all know what happens when you give money to the rich. They keep it. I understand the argument that banks would have failed had we not given them the money. The problem is that we gave them the money directly. The correct solution would have been to give every person in America a government voucher for $10,000.00 to use for making home payments or for paying down credit card debt. This would have returned every single dollar to the banks to fix their problems while at the same time fixing Jim the engineer's personal budget. What the government did was add a whole bunch of debt to the common person who is already in big trouble.

4) Making imported goods subject to the same rules that US companies have to work under. IE: China can't send us toys with lead in them. China has to do environmental studies on the impact of flaking chromium (why Detroit started making everything plastic instead of Chrome). Our environmental rules and regulations are not being adopted on a global scale and we are the ones footing the huge bill for something no one else complies with.

5) Make all countries of the world quit bootlegging our software. Engineering companies in the United States can't be competitive with India and Singapore  until those countries have to buy the same things we do in order to do business. Here is a great example: I was in Singapore 5 years ago and they sell bootleg US software in their malls there. At that time, Windows 2000 with the full release (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher) was $6.00 US for the entire box set ($600.00 here). ProEngineer computer aided design software (2001) was $8.00. It cost $13,000.00 in the US for the same thing. Stop the pirating business!

6) Legalize marijuana and let everyone out of jail that is in there ONLY for marijuana violations. Let them go free without probation or any other stipulations (why spend more money baby sitting them. They are just pot heads). This frees thousands of non violent prisoners from the prison system and frees up prison space for violent offenders. The end result is more tax revenue, new jobs, an end to subsidizing Mexican cartels and more available prison space without building more facilities which we can not afford right now.

7) Close our borders. Stop the human migration from Mexico. Give them work visas to come and work but send them home with their after tax dollars so they can stimulate the Mexican economy as well as ours. Deny citizenship

8) Only allow a person to run for one particular political office once. In our current political system senators, congressmen, presidents and governors spend the vast majority of their time fundraising and running for office. Give them all one term of 5 years. If you want to be a career politician you have to do it by moving to a new position every 5 years. I could go on forever here but I will limit this to few alternatives to this.
A) abolish the RNC and DNC. Make everyone run on their own platform. Democrats and republicans are not working and people are afraid to vote for independents as they feel that vote is wasted. Give us 5 options instead of 2. If you want to stay with the 2 party system add None of the above as an option. If the people don't want either candidate they are out and other candidates get an opportunity to run.
B) Make it illegal for politicians to advertise lies about their opposition. Better yet, make it illegal to mention their opposition in campaign ads. Force them to run on their own merits alone. Political ads have gotten totally out of control.

9) Charge other nations for US protection. Iraq should be giving us oil for free that is equal to our expenditures for helping them. If the cost is too high for them, they can opt to let the Chinese or Russians do it for less. as an add on item I say quit giving everything away. IE: The Panama Canal. We should have sold it to Panama for the 2 trillion dollars it would have cost them to build it in 1980 dollars. The canal is now flourishing and we are not a part of that boon due to ignorance.

10) Get rid of OPEC. OPEC is controlled by 11 billionaires, kings, who set the price of oil to the maximum value that economies can pay. These are the same people who are funding opposition to the United States.

If you are a normal, rational human being you have to agree that fixing any 5 of these 10 items would go a long way toward healing our situation. What the government is doing to the American people is criminal. Can we ship them off to Guantanamo?
